Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival

Private transfer from Girona airport or Caldes de Malavella station (if arriving from Barcelona). The property will have a welcome pack with basic supplies and a bottle of wine. On arrival there will be a tour briefing with maps, GPS, information pack and a bike fitting.

Day 2Pals & Torroella de Montgri

From Palamos you will head north to Pals. This village is one of the prettiest and well worth seeing. After your coffee stop head on to Torroella de Montgri. The next 15 Km are level and fast although you may want to stop in Ullastret, another fine example of an early medieval village on the way past. After this you head for home picking up the route back to Palamos where you can have a well earned swim in the sea before returning to the house.

Level : Moderate
Distance 68 km

Day 3La Gavarres

Leaving Palamos, you will head along the coast to Calonge. You will ride through the village of Calonge and climb ‘La Ganga’. This pass goes through the Gavarres, a protected area of great natural beauty. The climb is moderately difficult but the reward is the free run into La Bisbal, the main town of the Baix Emporda province. The route again turns into the woods of the Gavarres and heads to Cassa de Selva and on to Caldes de Malavella famous for Vichy Catalan mineral water before turning for home through Llagostera. One last climb will take you over to Calonge and back along the coast road home.
Level: Moderate to Difficult
Distance: 74 km

Day 4Beach

This is a rest day so you may want to just head to the beach in Palamos for a chill day, or a quick cycle to Mas Eugenes, a local wine producer near Calonge, where you can have a guided tour of the vineyards and do some wine tasting. The fish museum in Palamos is interesting and you can watch the fleet come in with its catch around 4.30. Alternatively we can organise another route if you would like to do more kms.

Day 5The Medieval Villages and Pubol

Today you will be transported into the middle of the ‘medieval village’ area and start from Fontclara. This circular route will take you through some of prettiest villages in Catalonia surrounded by some of the most stunning countryside. Pubol Dali’s wife’s castle will be visited along the way. You will also get a chance to work those legs climbing through Madramanya. A short run takes you back to la Bisbal and then on to Fontclara. Some may even wish to cycle home but transport will be available.

Level: Moderate
Distance 72 km

Day 6The Coastal Road

Heading down to the coast you turn south this time and go through Platja d’Aro then on to Sant Feliu de Guixols. The next section hugs the coastline with some spectacular views before turning inland and heading back to Llagostera. This route can be lengthened to take in Tossa de Mar but this does make for a long day. After Llagostera you climb back up to Romanya de la Selva before enjoying the long free run down to Calonge, and then along the coast road back to Palamos.

Level : Moderate/Difficult.
Distance 65 km
