This 4 day cycling break
is designed to give an overview of this unique part
of Catalonia. Baix Emporda has a special atmosphere
unlike any other in Spain. The countryside is green
and pastoral and the coast rugged and unspoilt.
Your first three nights will be based at Masia Rural
Can Poch, a beautifully restored farmhouse dating back
to 1633. It offers flexible accommodation perfect for
families, self contained apartments with optional kitchen
facilities or double rooms all en suite and including
breakfast. Facilities include a large outdoor swimming
pool, extensive garden grounds and a BBQ. It is located
on the outskirts of the medieval hilltop village of
Pals and is adjacent to the Baix Emporda
cycle network and has been chosen for its character,
charm and location. This holiday is perfect for families
and first time cyclists.

FOR THE 7 DAY TOUR
the other thee nights are spent at the Hotel Garbi in
Calella de Palafrugell a charming former fishing village
on the coast. This hotel has full facilities including
a pool and is only a 5 minute walk from any one of the
4 beaches in the village. Numerous bars and restaurants
are close by.
Day 1:
Collection from Girona airport or Flaca station. Tour
orientation, maps and bike fitting. Depending on your
arrival time your welcome to use the bikes today. Why
not take a short cycle past the rice fields of Arros Moli
de Pals then cycle past the orchards following the river
Ter down to the sea.

Day 2:
Your cycling journey takes you through farmland and
orchards stopping first in Ullastret. Here you can visit
an artisan cheese maker famed for 'Recuit' a local speciality
soft cheese best served with honey. Next stop the ancient
Iberian settlement dating back to the 6th century B.C.
Your route now takes you into La Bisbal d'Emporda famous
for the production of ceramics. Wander through 'the
Vila' the old Jewish quarter and stop for lunch before
heading back via Canapost.

3:
'Castell Dali Gala Pubol'.Today your cycle route takes
you to Pubol. The castle in the village was bought by
Dali for his wife Gala. It offers a very personal insight
into the lives of them both through the paintings, sculptures
and library collections. The top floor is dedicated
to Gala's 'Haute Couture' and the courtyard garden is
home to the most incredible elephant sculptures. A must
see museum for all ages.

Day 4:
After a leisurely breakfast , depending on your departure
time bikes are available for your use throughout the
day
If the extended tour is your choice you cycle on to
Calella de Palafrugell considered by many to be the
prettiest village on the coast with its narrow cobbled
streets and four blue flag sandy beaches. On route why
not stop in
Torrent and visit the tiny little jam factory/museum
that produces over 109 varieties of jams and chutneys.
Your accommodation is in the Hotel Garbi which has a
large pool and views over the sea. The beaches and restaurants
are less than 5 minutes walk.

Day 5:
Cycle up to Cap Roig a unique botanical garden established
by Elizabeth Webster in 1927. Perched on a cliff it
has wonderful views, amazing plants and sculptures.
Cycle on to the unspoilt beach of Castells, follow the
path inland and head on to Mon Ras and the lovely town
of Palafrugell before returning to Calella via another
great former fishing village of Llafranc. For the energetic
leave the bikes in Llafranc and walk up to El Far and
admire the panoramic views over the bay from San Sebastian
lighthouse.
Alternatively....Day 5 Summer Special:
Cycling, Sea Kayaking and Snorkelling. A short cycle
takes you to one of the beaches in the area where kayaks
will be available. The rocky coves can be explored.
Snorkel/ masks are provided and an underwater camera
to capture the sea life on film. This is available for
family bookings made in July and August

Day 6:
Vineyards of Can Sais. You leave Calella and cycle towards
Vall Llobrega via Ermedas. Can Sais is located in a
narrow valley of the Gavarres and has been in the same
family for generations. Marta the owner will talk to
you about her production methods and will offer you
a wine tasting. Next head towards the lively fishing
port of Palamos via the coastal paths. Visit the Museum
de Pescador and watch the fishermen bring in their catch.

After a leisurely breakfast depart from Calella
de Parafrugell.
